Birthday!

It's Valentine's Day of course, which means it's also my birthday today!! Family will be visiting us from upstate to celebrate and I can't wait for our pizza/cupcake party tonight! My 30th year went by so scary quick, it's hard to fathom that I'm 31 already. However, this past year was truly great and some amazing things have happened (getting engaged was definitely a biggie!) There's a comfortable rhythm to my life now more than ever before that's hard to explain but wonderful to experience. I feel so thankful and lucky to have my fiancé, my family, my friends, my career, my good health… life is SO good! Looking forward to another healthy, happy year ahead. Bring it 31.
Happy Valentines Day Everyone!
PS. one of my birthday presents from Dave… a new re-design for my blog to match the look and feel of my new website! (if you haven't checked it out yet, you should! It's pretty darn great in my humble opinion.)

Ellen Uzane Schneiderman
The Surround Sound necklace I posted an image of yesterday was a custom piece made for a woman who also happens to be an artist here in nyc and I wanted to share some images of her work today because it is truly stunning. Ellen Schneiderman is a painter who works in ink, gouache, acrylic, watercolor, and paper. Below are a selection of my faves, but be sure to check out her website for even more: http://ellen.arloartists.com/
Makeshift Terrain © Ellen Uzane Schneiderman
Of her work, Ellen says:
Makeshift Terrain © Ellen Uzane SchneidermanI'm most drawn to the color and texture of these works. They have a sort of petri-dish quality about them - like we're looking at unidentifiable microscopic organisms, beautifully magnified. Layered, textured, softened in some areas and brought into sharp focus in others. I think they're quite lovely.
Of her work, Ellen says:
"My mixed media works are influenced by systems that categorize species and specimens, macro and microbiological forms, and my own tendencies to organize, record, and contain. I am a sloppy scientist. As I embrace my obsessive instincts, I am also invested in exploring and revealing my own elegant mess."More here.

Metalsmith Magazine

My Bubblegum POP Neckpiece appears in the current issue of Metalsmith Magazine accompanying Bruce Metcalf's article "Craft's New Borderland" on page 37. The layout and design looks great and to be included in Metalsmith (twice in the last four months?!) is an incredible honor.
If you get a chance to check it out in person, please do! In this issue there's also a studio visit/feature with Shana Kroiz - whose work appears on the cover (MICA represent) and an interesting article about copycat-ism by Harriete Estel Berman… definitely worth picking up!

can't wait to carve into these beauties!
A couple of my recent eBay acquisitions… can you believe those green eyes?! I have to say, they are The. Most. Beautiful. green eyes I've EVER encountered on a Barbie doll before (and I've seen A LOT of Barbie eyes!) Green is hard enough to find as it is, let alone a pair as stunning as these! (the photo really doesn't even do them justice.) I can't WAIT to make something out of them.My studio life has been CRAZY busy lately - filling wholesale orders and working on tons of custom work. Unfortunately, my etsy shop has really been neglected because of this. However I hope to remedy that ASAP. Thanks for your inquiries about new work… I promise I'll be listing again as soon as I can. So many ideas, so little time…
Happy February everyone!
