so now the question is… do I re-create a replacement for use in all the remaining high profile photo shoots and events my Barbie was due to appear in following Prêt-á-Porter or not? They've "invited" me to do so… is it worth it?

that is HORRIBLE!!! I'm so sorry!
Yes, I think if you have the time, you should remake it. They may have stolen your first effort, but they shouldn't be allowed to steal the opportunities you were supposed to have.
oh no! that is heart breaking :(
i agree, if you do have time, it sure seems like it would be worth remaking it. maybe it will appear in a day or two?! you can always hope i guess...
that is so terrible! what is wrong with people? i am so sorry! i would remake it too. especially if there are still photos to be taken.
I'm so sorry that happened to you, that's just awful. If you recreate it, is there still lots of time in which it would be exhibited? Would it make you feel at all better or just resentful while remaking it?
jerks! was yours the only one that was stolen? either way, you should definitely make another one if there's a possibility of it being in photo shoots. i'm so sorry.
That is HORRIBLE!! Who would do something like that?! Yes, remake it. But maybe you could change the eye makeup slightly, you know, out of respect for your original. Good luck!
Oh, that is awful. I would remake, I think the press would be worthwhile.
Looks like your fans spoken ;) Redo it babe! It does make sense, as the publicity is worth the loss. I still can't believe it happened, guess something bad had to happen when so many good things were. :/ That's ok though :) PS I don't know about having your phone # on this post, email is fine.
i agree, redo it. it's a shame that happened, but yeah, turn a negative into a positive and use it for the publicity if nothing else...
How disheartening! Ditto what everyone else said. It would be a shame to miss out on the exposure.
I don't suppose the coordinator of the exhibition or the venue had insurance for this type of thing did they? Are they making any assurances about enhanced security?
And great idea to make a subtle change or mark it somehow so you'll know which was the first one....should it turn up again.
oh I am so sorry, so sorry that that happened to you. I agree with everything everyone has said, redo redo redo, with a slight difference so you know one from the other. What a compliment though? :-)
Yes Redo! And I'm so sorry this happened. I can't believe the nasty brass balls that some people have to do something like that. They'll get what's coming to them someday...
Keep your successful chin up and make the next one with just as much excitement and pride as you did the first. Don't let some schmuck put a damper on your incredible work!
Oh Dear! I hope you find her. Don't let it bring you down :) You are awesome!
Thanks to everyone for your comments and kind words about this. I really appreciate your support :-)
We're still working it out but I'll keep you posted as to what happens next…
I hate that this happened to you... Someone is a total jerk, but they must have really loved your work. I hope you have a chance to make another doll before all the photo shoots/publicity.
Dang Margaux
That is about as low as it gets. I have to wonder - why on earth would someone do that? To what end would it serve them?
Do what we do best - make another on and in the process it will be even better that the first - maybe even 'evolved' a bit.
Hang tough and btw - Happy BDay early!
so sorry ... must just sink.. your heart...
i agree though, remake her !
How awful but dont miss out on the exposure you so rightly deserve because of someones malice and stupidity
What a painful loss. I'm sorry this happened. It seems a year doesn't go by without a story of a low-life thief ravaging someone's collection for their own sick needs.
